The Korean Community of Philadelphia Church is a new developing church which uses a House church that enables non-Christians to feel at home.

House church is a church that meets in a home. October, 2003, at present time, the Korean Community of Philadelphia Church is an example of a House church because it is made up of just the pastor’s family. However, when the family members increase through evangelism, the house church will separate into two house churches. Eventually, in the Korean Community of Philadelphia Church, all house churches will exist in the shape of a new developing church. Every Friday, each house church will have a meeting (worship) in a respective house. On Sunday, all house church members will gather together and worship.

A House church meeting creates an environment whereby all can know that one soul is more precious than the universe. Such preciousness of a soul does not lie on the effectiveness he or she has on the world. Rather, the true reason lie on the fact that he or she calls God, who is more precious than the whole universe, “Abba, Father.”

A House church brings non-Christians through natural relationships that are established with neighbors. The non-Christians, in observing and experiencing sincere sharing among the house church members, they are able to open their heart toward God. Then, these non-Christians who have opened their heart will experience the truth about their relationship with God and with their neighbors through the Bible study, “Living life” run by the Korean Community of Philadelphia Church. In result, they will accept Christ as their Savior, be baptized and become a part of the family in faith.

As a new member of the family in faith, they will continually experience through House church meetings a life of obedience and service for salvation of souls. Such repeated experiences will again raise them up as people of service so that they may become like Jesus Christ.

1. House church ministry
House church will assume all church’s ministry. In other words, House church will be responsible for worship, fellowship, service and mission as an independent new church.

2. Examples of House church
Some examples are New Testament churches (Romans 16:3-5, 14, 15/Colossian 5:15) and House church in China. Also many churches in both Korea and U.S. are changing to House church.

3. Reasons why we need House church
1) So church members may become one family
2) So all church members can act as a part of the body of Christ
3) So all church members can participate in evangelism

4. Duties in a House church
Shepherd Acts as a pastor; must complete 3 requirement courses and 2 one-to-one nurture courses, and then must be nominated and appointed by the selecting committee. Those who are given the duty but who have not completed the courses are called “proxy shepherds.”
Preliminary shepherd When members of a House church reaches 15 members, it is ready to separate. One to two months prior, a preliminary shepherd is selected. The person must have completed “Living Life” and “The Basic Truth of Spiritual Growth,” and must be appointed by the selecting committee.
Teacher The person must have completed “Living Life” and “The Basic Truth of Spiritual Growth,” and must be appointed by the selecting committee.
House church member Except for the duties listed above, all members should each have a duty in ministry. (praise and worship, fellowship, mission, publishing, secretary, treasurer, etc.)
